From Prayer to Action: New Tools for Your Care Team
Prayer is one of the most meaningful things a congregation does together — and now CareNote helps you steward it. This release introduces a complete prayer request workflow with "I Prayed for This" email confirmations, giving coordinators real visibility into prayer coverage. We've also added a Category Report for cross-model insights, more powerful group management with filters and bulk tagging, and expanded SMS support to Canada and the UK.
Every update below was inspired by real feedback from churches using CareNote to care for their people. Let's walk through what's new.
Prayer Request Management
The headline feature is the Prayer Request—a complete lifecycle for managing prayer requests from submission to completion. When a prayer request comes in through a Planning Center form, CareNote now tracks it through four stages: Received → Covered → Answered → Archived.
What makes this truly special is the "I Prayed for This" confirmation flow. Group members receive an email with a button they can click to record that they've prayed. Each confirmation is tracked via a secure signed URL, giving care coordinators real visibility into prayer coverage across the congregation.
We've also added group routing for prayer automations, so prayer requests submitted through different PCO forms can be automatically routed to the right care group—your women's ministry prayer team, your elder board, or your hospital visitation group. Each form can target a different group, and the PCO Form view page now shows exactly where each automation routes.
To keep things manageable, Prayer Request notification settings give users full control. New prayer request and "I Prayed" notifications default to off, and the system prevents duplicate notifications when someone confirms multiple times.
Smarter Group Management
Groups are where care happens, and we've made the Profiles tab on groups significantly more powerful. You can now filter group members by campus, affiliation, classification, gender, birthday, and tags—making it easy to find exactly who you're looking for without leaving the group view.
We've added a tags column with bulk add/remove tag actions, so organizing group members by ministry role, life stage, or any custom label is just a few clicks. The new Add Interaction slide-over replaces the old "Log Visit" button, letting you record any type of care touchpoint—visits, calls, emails, notes—directly from the group's people tab.
The Bulk Assign Care Provider action has been moved into the bulk actions dropdown, so the workflow is now: select people first, then choose the action. It's more intuitive and consistent with how other bulk operations work throughout CareNote.
Category Report
Pastors and care coordinators often need to answer a simple question: "Show me everything tagged with this category." The new Category Report page does exactly that.
It pulls together categorized items across six model types—interactions, care requests, tasks, milestones, and more—into a single unified table with links back to each source record. A stats widget at the top shows categorized counts per type at a glance, and you can filter by category (with type labels to disambiguate duplicate names) and export everything to CSV.
Enhanced Interaction Filters
The Interactions tab now supports date range, category, location, and follow-up filters. Whether you're reviewing a quarter's worth of pastoral visits or looking for interactions that still need follow-up, you can now slice the data the way you need it—right from the relation manager.
Communication & Operations Improvements
We've expanded SMS phone number support to cover the US, Canada, and the UK, so churches with international congregations can reach more people via text.
Two important email rendering fixes ensure that rich text content in emails and task descriptions now displays properly formatted HTML instead of showing raw tags—a small change that makes a big difference in how professional your care communications look.
Team administrators can now remove users from a team directly from the Users relation manager, streamlining access management without needing to navigate away from the team view.
Looking Ahead
Prayer is the foundation of pastoral care, and we're excited to see how the prayer request workflow helps your ministry track and celebrate the faithfulness of your prayer teams. We're already planning enhancements including PII redaction for prayer automations—so you can share prayer needs with groups while protecting sensitive personal details.
As always, your feedback drives what we build. Every feature starts with a real conversation with a real ministry leader facing a real challenge. Keep those conversations coming.
